Old coats filling up your closet? Keep San Antonio Warm this winter, donate them.

Winter is upon us in San Antonio and the need for new or gently-used winter coats is on the rise for the less fortunate. Five Star Cleaners is working with KENS 5 and Santikos Theaters to assure that San Antonio stays warm this winter through their annual winter coat project, Cold Days, Warm Hearts.

“We are thrilled to be working with KENS 5 and Santikos Theaters this year,” said Five Star Cleaners Co-Owner Sharlene Thum. “Each organization is passionate about giving back to the community, and with their help I know we are going to be able to give more coats to those who need them.”

For over 35 years, Five Star Cleaners has been working to keep San Antonio warm for the winter through their annual coat drive Cold Days, Warm Hearts. Over 135,000 coats have been collected, repaired and cleaned and provided to the good folks at SAMMinistries (SAMM), Christian Assistance Ministry (CAM) and Pearl Street Church for distribution to their clients who may not have the means to purchase coats.

Always searching for ways to gather more coats and provide donors with a token of appreciation, Five Star Cleaners and Santikos Theaters have teamed up to give back to those who give. Beginning December 26 through January 31, patrons to all 9 of the San Antonio Santikos Theaters can bring in a new or gently used coat any day, any time and receive a free popcorn, a 30-minute game card and $5 Five Star Cleaners gift certificate for their coat donation.

“Santikos is about community, and we wholeheartedly believe in providing the assistance and help needed to the people of San Antonio,” said Santikos Theaters Executive Director of Marketing and Sales Andrew Brooks. “Five Star Cleaners Cold Days, Warm Heart project has been of great service to the community for a long time, and it made perfect sense to join forces.”

Celebrating the season of giving, Five Star Cleaners, Santikos Theaters and KENS 5 will be hosting a winter wonderland on Friday, January 3 from 4-7 p.m. at the new Santikos Cibolo location. Patrons are encouraged to come early before their show and bring their new or gently used coats and enjoy snow tubing, Star Wars characters, and mingle with KENS 5 personalities.

“Cold Days, Warm Hearts is an incredible program that consistently shows up year after year to assure that those who are less fortunate get a coat to stay warm,” said KENS 5 President and General Manager Tom Cury. “And San Antonio is a giving community. It’s an honor to be a part of the program this year and get the word out to all of our viewers to encourage them to donate.”

Donors are also invited to drop off new or gently-used men, women and children’s coats at any of the 15 Five Star Cleaners’ stores now through January 31. As a gift for donating, each person receives a tax receipt and a $5 gift certificate for a future dry-cleaning order, courtesy of Five Star Cleaners.

Coats will be distributed to those less fortunate through SAMM and CAM, and Pearl Street Church. “Our beneficiaries are incredible assets to the community, and they need our help to assure their clients can stay warm this winter,” said Thum.
