Old coats filling up your closet? Keep San Antonio Warm this winter, donate them.
2018 Cold Days, Warm Hearts Winter Coat Project kicks off November 10
The weather is getting colder and the need for new or gently-used winter coats is on the rise for the less fortunate in San Antonio, prompting an early start to Five Star Cleaners annual winter coat project, Cold Days, Warm Hearts.
“We are working to be ahead of the need this year,” said Five Star Cleaners Co-Founder Sharlene Thum. “Old Man Winter is projected to be colder, and around earlier and longer than in past seasons, and we want to be sure we have coats cleaned, repaired and ready to distribute to those in need.”
For over 37 years, Five Star Cleaners has been working to keep San Antonio warm for the winter through their annual coat drive Cold Days, Warm Hearts.
Over 135,000 coats have been collected, repaired and cleaned and provided to the good folks at SAMMinistries (SAMM) and Christian Assistance Ministries (CAM) for distribution to their clients who may not have the means to purchase coats.
Donors are invited to drop off new or gently-used men, women and children’s coats at any of the 17 Five Star Cleaners’ stores starting November10 through January 10. As a gift for donating, each person receives a tax receipt and a $5 gift certificate for a future dry cleaning order, courtesy of Five Star Cleaners.
“Our customers are extremely generous—and have stepped up every year to bring warmth to those less fortunate,” said Thum.
Always searching for ways to gather more coats and provide donors with a token of appreciation, Five Star Cleaners is partnering again with Alamo Drafthouse through Warm Hearts San Antonio. Beginning November 10 through January 10, patrons to Alamo Drafthouse can bring in a new or gently used coat any day, any time and receive a free popcorn and $5 Five Star Cleaners gift certificate for their coat donation.
Coats will be distributed to those less fortunate through SAM and CAM, as well as Pearl Street Church. “SAM and CAM are rocky steady in their service to those in need, and Pearl Street Church joins us this year eager to serve those less fortunate with church members volunteering to distribute coats to homeless on the streets throughout the winter,” said Thum.
Passionate about giving back to their community, Five Star Cleaners hopes to collect even more coats through new partnerships and promotions. “The Alamo City is a giving community. Grab those gently worn coats from your closet or add a coat to your Black Friday shopping list and drop them at any Five Star Cleaners or San Antonio Alamo Drafthouse, so we bring even more warmth to less fortunate women, children and men in San Antonio,” said Thum.
